It Got Serious When the Pfaff Arrived.

On old machines, new ideas, and finally putting a name to all of it.

Not that I hadn't been making things before. There had been years of photography, design projects, rooms rearranged, furniture rescued, and ideas that somehow turned into actual objects.

But bringing home an old industrial sewing machine felt like a declaration of intent. This wasn't just the kids Halloween costumes, curtains, crafts...

There was something about that big, heavy piece of machinery that made the whole thing feel a little more official. Or possibly a little more ridiculous. I hadn't decided. (And when I say "big, heavy" I may have purposely used generic words to not relive the drama of the day I decided to just "go get it with my car." Oof... a truck rental with a ramp that should have been a lift and several hours of brute force later... If you know me, you know that I can get anything done - "it'll take 10 minutes." I can't tell you how many times that line has been the butt of jokes. ANYWAY...

One project became another. Leather straps led to accessories. Accessories led to tools, patterns, displays, and new problems to solve. Meanwhile, the photography, branding, and creative work I'd been doing for years never really went away.

Eventually, I realized these weren't separate interests competing for my attention. They were different parts of the same process.

Arrow & Gray is where they've finally come together.

The website is new. The work isn't.

And the Pfaff? We've had to learn to get along, but now I protect her like one of my own. She's still here.
